Showing 2 of 2 This is a collection of firsthand accounts of the Indians who were at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The events of the battle are related, but the part I found interesting was the way the Indians felt about fighting. They dressed up so that when they died they will look good for the Great Spirit, they went to battle expecting to die. This would be a great book to use when studying the battle of the Little Bighorn or the population of the Western part of the United States. It puts a different spin on Manifest Destiny. ( ) kjwatkins78 | May 15, 2020 | As a result of the crushing victory against American forces at the Battle of Little Bighorn, the only eyewitness accounts available are those from the veterans of the American Indian side of the engagement. Realizing this, in the 1870s, a medical doctor working with the tribes sought out survivors from the battle and sought their story of what happened that day. There was much reluctance and even resistance to this by the veterans who feared reprisals for their participation in the battle. Eventually, he collected the accounts of several, including Chief Sitting Bull, to provide some idea of what happened that day. Given the dearth of available information about the battle, these interviews are a desperately needed resource for the historiography of the battle. This would serve as an excellent source book for a High School research paper. ( ) CharlesHollis | May 3, 2015 | Showing 2 of 2 ▼Published reviews ▼Common Knowledge

Likewise, choosing which elements of the story to reveal and when to reveal them is crucial to the success of creative non-fiction. In a journalistic piece, the reader wants all the facts right at the start, but in a creative piece, you can let the story simmer a bit, bringing the reader along with you as you eke out the details.
